Include the device model, operating-system version, jellyboy version, Jellyfin server version, selected quality, and whether the player reported AV or VLC. Never include passwords, access tokens, authorization headers, or a complete private server URL.

See the privacy policy for details about local data and network requests.

Connection

Enter the complete address of your Jellyfin server, including its port or path when required. jellyboy adds http:// when an address has no scheme, validates the server, and follows ordinary redirects. Use HTTPS whenever the connection leaves a trusted network.

If sign-in fails, confirm the same address, username, and password work in a browser. Check the server’s reverse-proxy and local-network settings. Settings → Change Server returns to the connection screen and retains up to three recent server addresses without saving credentials in that history.

Libraries

The library picker uses the names and order configured for the signed-in Jellyfin user. Selecting a library loads only playable items from that library. Live TV and Offline are separate entries in the same picker.

Use the heart on a movie, show, episode, music item, or channel to add or remove a favorite. Filled hearts indicate favorites. Favorites are saved to the signed-in Jellyfin account after the server confirms the change, not just on this device. Turn on Favorites Only to filter the selected library or Live TV, and refresh to pick up changes made in another client. Favorites require a connection to the server; offline downloads do not have a favorite control.

Playback and Live TV

Video starts with the entire picture fitted against black. Tap to show or hide the controls. During playback they fade away after four idle seconds; they stay available while paused, using a menu or the AirPlay picker, or using VoiceOver. The expand button fills the screen by cropping the picture’s edges; tap it again to restore the entire picture. Both modes work in portrait and landscape. Audio controls stay visible.

Changing quality preserves your playback position, pause state, and subtitle choice, including Off. While paused, quality and track changes take effect when you press Play.

Maximum quality first asks Jellyfin for a direct source with Swiftfin’s 360 Mbps ceiling. jellyboy uses Apple’s player for compatible media and VLCKit for additional formats. If local playback fails, it asks Jellyfin for a remux or transcode. Lower quality limits intentionally allow server transcoding.

jellyboy reports online playback progress to the selected server. Reopening a partially watched movie or episode resumes from Jellyfin’s saved position, and series pages show the server’s current Next Up episode.

Live TV lists channels with current program information and favorite channels first. Search by channel name, number, or current program. Open a channel to watch live or browse its TV guide by date. Today’s guide shows current and upcoming programs; other dates show the day’s listings, including programs that cross midnight. Times use this device’s time zone. Channels refresh every minute while the Live TV screen is active.

Live TV availability and guide data depend on the selected server. If no listings appear, check the guide provider in Jellyfin or choose another date. A guide error does not prevent channel playback. Direct live sources use VLC; server-remuxed or transcoded streams try Apple’s player first, with VLC as the local fallback. Recording and DVR controls are not supported.

For AirPlay video, choose media that uses the AV engine. VLC-only media may need Jellyfin conversion before an AirPlay destination can play it. Background audio and system media controls are available after playback starts.

Audio and subtitles

Playback starts with Jellyfin’s per-user audio and subtitle choices when provided, including subtitles Off. Tap the video to reveal audio, subtitle, speed, and quality selectors when options are available. Text subtitles can be selected directly. Some bitmap subtitle formats require Jellyfin to burn them into a converted stream.

Downloads

Use the options menu on a movie or episode to choose download quality, audio, and subtitles. Maximum quality copies or remuxes when possible; a lower bitrate may ask the server to transcode. The same menu can play, replace, or remove one download; open Offline to clear all downloaded media.

If a replacement download fails, the previous copy stays available to play or clear. Open the title for the failure message, then use its options menu to retry or dismiss the error.

Downloads run while jellyboy remains active. Background download continuation and Live TV downloads are not currently supported.
